As one of those people who starts thinking about travel outfits many days in advance, I’m constantly bookmarking inspiration when I see it because coming up with the perfect travel outfit isn’t easy. No matter what season it is, you’re probably going to be hot and cold at some point within the same day, so layers are important. There are also other factors to consider, such as being comfortable, looking polished, and your destination when you exit the plane (or train or automobile).

Selfishly, I started off by compiling these outfit ideas for myself with upcoming 2026 trips in mind. Now, I’m sharing my favorite outfit findings with the internet so we can all have an easier time prepping for travel. No matter what curveballs your travel day throws at you, if you look and feel good, I strongly believe that your day will be better. So yeah, travel-day outfits are important. Scroll on to plan yours along with me, starting with a few of the most wearable 2026 outfit trends we have so far (yes, already). And just for fun, I added some of my go-to travel gear at the end.

The Outfit: Trench Coat + Leggings + Ballet Flats

This polished legging outfit is appropriate for travel days year-round. If you’re heading somewhere warm, wear it as is and layer a tee under the trench. For a cooler destination, just throw on an oversize wool coat.

The Outfit: Half-Zip Pullover + Button-Down Shirt + White Pants + Sneakers

Half-zip pullovers are poised to be the number one basic of 2026 thanks to Chanel, and this is the perfect way to wear one for a travel day. (Tip: If white pants on a plane seem scary to you, swap them for a more forgiving khaki pair to achieve the same oufit results.)

The Outfit: Cool Coat + T-Shirt + Track Pants + Chunky Sneakers

The Outfit: Suede Jacket + Long-Sleeve Tee + Jeans + Boots

I don’t typically love to wear suede or leather jackets on travel days, but this outfit is so good that I couldn’t resist including it. If you’re worried about damaging the jacket, a barn jacket or a darker-colored suede jacket would make great swaps.
